The digital media landscape is evolving rapidly, and ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (SoLAcc) is making sure its students are prepared for the future. In response to shifting industry demands, the college has overhauled its Digital Media Design program, incorporating more design and art theory while expanding hands-on learning opportunities.

“We saw a need to enhance and further students’ working knowledge of digital media in a way that could carry the program into the future,” said Marcel St. Pierre, Digital Media Design Program Coordinator. “The industry is changing fast, and we want our graduates to have the broad skill set necessary to succeed.”

A Broader Skill Set for a Changing Industry

The revamped curriculum moves beyond its traditional focus on web design to incorporate graphic design, animation, video editing, and digital marketing. These updates align with the increasing demand for digital content across industries, from entertainment to corporate branding. In addition to technical skills, the program now places greater emphasis on design principles and creative problem-solving, giving students a well-rounded foundation.

“It’s not just about learning software,” St. Pierre explained. “It’s about understanding visual communication and applying those skills effectively in real-world scenarios.”

Hands-On Learning with Real Clients

One of the most significant changes is an increased focus on real-world projects. Students will have opportunities to work directly with local businesses, applying their skills to real client needs.

“Every semester, we collaborate with businesses in our community,” St. Pierre said. “Students gain hands-on experience by working on actual projects, which gives them an edge when they enter the job market.”

This approach ensures that graduates are not only technically proficient but also experienced in professional workflows, teamwork, and problem-solving in live production environments.

Affordable Education with Financial Support

The program is designed to be both accessible and efficient, with students able to earn an Associate of Applied Science or a Technical Diploma in just two years. Financial aid options, including FAFSA, MJ Foster, scholarships, and TOPS Tech, make it even more attainable for those looking to break into the field.

Enrollment Open for Summer and Fall With enrollment now open for summer and fall, prospective students have the opportunity to join a program that is actively adapting to industry needs.

“We’re creating an environment where students can develop their creative skills while also gaining the practical experience they need to thrive,” St. Pierre said.
