SLCC will begin registering incoming students for the Summer semester the week of April 23.聽聽Summer courses for incoming students will be offered in an online format.聽聽SLCC is offering two types of online courses for students to choose from: 鈥渟ynchronous鈥 courses which meet at specific times using online meeting tools and 鈥渁synchronous鈥 courses which allow students to login at times that work with their schedule.

SLCC partners with CASHNet聽to let you pay tuition and fees over time, making college more affordable.聽 The earlier you sign up for a payment plan, the smaller your payments can be.

Several higher education groups have joined together in support of the Student Veteran Coronavirus Response Act of 2020. The bipartisan companion of this bill, H.R. 6322, passed the House last week and included provisions. Several聽institutions of higher education, including SLCC, are waiting on further guidance once the legislation passes the Senate.聽 Please continue to check with the VA Office and the SLCC website for updates.

Governor John Bel Edwards signed Proclamation Number 41 JBE 2020 to ensure high school seniors and current post-secondary students are able to meet requirements to be eligible for the state鈥檚 merit-based scholarship, the Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) or continue eligibility.

College decision day is near! With everyone stuck inside, it can be hard to pick a college that fits you. We'll be part of a Virtual College Fair on聽Monday, April 6 and Wednesday, April 8 to help answer your admissions questions and more.聽 We have two times set up 鈥 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. Register today.

The Communications and Marketing Office won the top prize in the聽Print Ad 鈥 Single聽category for an ad in the college鈥檚 recent Rural Marketing Campaign. The ad depicts welding student Trina Batiste from Crowley with the words learn, burn, earn.

As an additional measure to help our students cope with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, our online payment plan provider, Cashnet, has decided to stop assessing late fees on Payment Plans.聽 If you are enrolled in auto-payments and are unable to make timely payments you can disable autopay without any penalty.

The online portal for students is getting a revamp. LoLA is getting a new look and we want to help with any questions you may have. We've put together a list of resources that can help with the new navigation.

Please note that only the commencement ceremony is being postponed.聽 Degrees will still be awarded at the end of this semester as long as requirements for graduation have been met.

We've got Student Life Coordinators for all our campuses and they are ready to help with remote learning. Need info on graduation? Need to schedule a tutoring session?

SLCC has developed limited access to computer labs on several campuses for students who do not have any technological resources to adequately engage in remote delivery from their homes. Click to see the schedule.

Grad Fest will still be held March 30 -April 3, but the sessions will now be held online. Please register for one of our sessions.

TEAS Exam Canceled

PLEASE NOTE --聽The Louisiana Contractors Exams scheduled this week are canceled.聽 Students planning to take the TEAS exam Tuesday morning should check their email for a message from the Testing Center director. The exam will not be administered as scheduled because of the limited number of people who can gather in one spot.

精东传媒 is seeing an increase in student enrollment this semester, despite decreasing national trends. The college is also experiencing an increase in enrollment from year-to-year. According to Debbie Tabchouri, director of Enrollment Management, the college saw a 7 percent increase in enrollment for Spring 2020 compared to Spring 2019. This follows a 5.7 percent increase聽experienced in the fall 2019 semester.

More than 30 employers and universities will be at SLCC鈥檚 T.H. Harris Campus Thursday, March 12 for a Career and Transfer Fair. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m. The T.H. Harris Campus is located at 332 E. South Street in Opelousas. Students, alumni, and the public are invited to visit with employers looking to hire during this free event. Visitors are encouraged to bring copies of their resumes.
