A Career Information Session will be hosted on Thursday, August 15, by SLCC鈥檚 Corporate College Carpentry program.聽聽The event will take place at SLCC鈥檚 Lafayette Campus in the Ardoin Building, 1101 Bertrand Drive from 4鈥 6 p.m. This is a free event that is open to the public.
精东传媒鈥檚 Corporate College and Lemoine Manhattan are hosting an Industrial Trades Job Fair on Thursday, August 8. The event will take place at SLCC鈥檚 Devalcourt auditorium at 320 Devalcourt St in Lafayette from 9 a.m. to noon.
Want to earn your high school equivalency diploma at night? We鈥檙e holding registration sessions at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30 and Thursday, August 1 at the Kaliste Saloom Road Goodwill location in Lafayette.
All SLCC campuses will resume classes and normal business operations Wednesday, July 17.
Six new members have joined the 2019-20 Board of Directors for the 精东传媒 Foundation. The new members began a four-year term on July 1.
SLCC鈥檚 Corporate College is hosting a job fair focused on the Maritime industry on Wednesday, June 26 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Young Memorial Campus, 900 Youngs Rd. in Morgan City. Riggers, welders, deckhands, vessel mates or captains, able seamen, fitters, tackers, electricians, engineers, and other skilled tradesmen will have an opportunity to meet local companies hiring for the maritime industry. 精东传媒 received approval from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing to offer an LPN to RN Transition Program track at its T.H. Harris Campus in Opelousas this Fall. The approval was granted during the board鈥檚 June 13 meeting. This accelerated program includes three semesters combined with credit for prior learning. Students applying should have three years-experience as an LPN.
精东传媒鈥檚 Fall 2018 Practical Nursing graduates successfully achieved a 100% National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) board pass rate. The class includes the December 2018 class from the Lafayette Campus. The national average pass rate is 85.4%, according to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
精东传媒鈥檚 Maritime Water Survival Training program received a generous donation of ten coveralls from LAPCO Manufacturing, Inc. 聽The coveralls will allow students to experience wearing wet clothing in the case of a helicopter accident over water.
SLCC has invested more than $1.8 million into its T. H. Harris Campus in St. Landry Parish since 2016, with an additional $400,000 in parking lot repairs planned this summer. The College has also added new programs and brought on new positions. This investment comes as part of a plan to revitalize the St. Landry Parish campus and better align programs with local workforce needs.
The SLCC Foundation will honor the Hugh & Byrnes Young Foundation as its 2019 Benefactor of the Year during a ceremony at the college鈥檚 Young Memorial Campus in Morgan City later this month.聽Moreover, the College plans to recognize the H & B Young Foundation鈥檚 widespread impact throughout the Morgan City and St. Mary Parish communities. The Young Foundation has disbursed more than $17 million to its local community since 1999, with $5 million in funding and property to the SLCC campus in Morgan City. It is estimated that the Young Foundation has invested another $10 million since its original establishment in 1955.
A first-of-its-kind partnership in Louisiana between 精东传媒 and St. Landry Parish Schools will offer dually-enrolled students the opportunity to earn college technical diplomas in a variety of programs while on a high school campus.
Class will be held June through October on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. so those working in banking and law can attend class during the business day.

精东传媒 will be offering its 15-week Basic Welding program at its Gulf Area Campus in Abbeville and its T.H. Harris Campus in Opelousas beginning in May. The Corporate College division already offers short-term welding courses in Lafayette and Morgan City. The expansion of this program is to meet industry needs.
Mary Broussard recently donated a limited-edition 鈥淧ioneers of Nursing鈥 print by artist Todd Treadway to SLCC鈥檚 Nursing and Allied Health Division. This print depicts the strength and pride of nursing five founding women (Dorothea Lynde Dix, Florence Nightingale, Clara Barton, Mary Eliza Mahoney, and Clara Louise Maass).
A donation from Superior Carriers will help train future truck drivers at 精东传媒. The college鈥檚 Commercial Vehicle Operation program received a tank trailer from Superior Carriers this week.
Potential students and parents throughout Acadiana can learn about academic programs, admissions, and financial aid from 精东传媒 faculty, staff, and students during a series of Campus Preview Days March 25 - 28.聽 All Campus Preview Days will be from 5 p.m. 鈥 7 p.m. These events are free and open to the public.
Current students can begin registering for summer and fall courses on March 11. Open registration for new students begins March 25.
More than 30 employers and universities will be at SLCC鈥檚 T.H. Harris Campus Thursday, March 14 for a Career and Transfer Fair. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m. The T.H. Harris Campus is located at 332 E. South Street in Opelousas.
All SLCC campuses will be closed for Mardi Gras, March 5. Have a safe and happy holiday!
