精东传媒 will be offering its Commercial Driver鈥檚 License (CDL) program in New Iberia beginning in October. The college currently offers CDL training in Crowley and Morgan City.聽 The college鈥檚 Corporate College division is expanding its current program to meet industry needs.

Progress is continuing on the proposed welding training facility at the Port of West St. Mary. Tests of the soil were recently completed to determine conditions for designing and constructing the facility鈥檚 foundation, parking, and other features.

精东传媒鈥檚 most recent Registered Nursing graduates successfully achieved a 100% National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) board pass rate. The May 2018 cohort of 31 graduates earned Associate of Science degrees.

Open enrollment is underway at 精东传媒 for a training program of the next generation of maritime industry workers.

Our Nursing and Allied Health Division is conducting a community needs survey. The purpose of this survey is to determine the need for a Practical Nurse (PN) to Registered Nurse (RN) Program in St. Landry Parish.

精东传媒 is answering a call from industry and offering a Carpentry program at its St. Martinville Campus this Fall. SLCC鈥檚 Corporate College will offer the program at the Evangeline Campus. Registration for will begin in October.

精东传媒 is among the fastest growing colleges that award associate degrees in the country. That鈥檚 according to the latest edition of the Chronicle of Higher Education鈥檚 Almanac. The Chronicle 鈥 the premier publication dedicated to college and university news across the nation 鈥 publishes this ranking plus others each year in its Almanac. This year鈥檚 rankings considered enrollments from 2006 to 2016.

精东传媒鈥檚 Corporate College will begin offering a Defensive Driving course at its New Iberia campus this month. The classroom-style program will be a highly interactive driver-improvement program that focuses on the importance of attitude in accident prevention and good driving skills.

A partnership between the Lafayette Parish Sheriff鈥檚 Office Community Corrections division and 精东传媒 is offering inmates a technical diploma track in Welding. The program began last year.

Two key administrators recently joined 精东传媒. Brad Breaux was named Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Dr. Katheryne Pavey is Dean of Student Services. Both positions will be responsible for operations throughout the college鈥檚 nine-campus footprint.

Current SLCC students have the chance to win a Finish Line Scholarship on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the conclusion of the college鈥檚 Striding for Scholarships 5K and 1-mile Fun Run. 鈥淭his really is an 鈥榚nter to win鈥 opportunity for a current student to win an SLCC scholarship to help defray the cost of college expenses. There is no application process or essay required,鈥 said Lana Fontenot, executive director of the SLCC Foundation. To qualify for the Finish Line Scholarship drawing, current SLCC students must register for the 5K or 1-mile Fun Run.

Looking for a part-time job this semester? Exhibitors will be the Lafayette Campus Friday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. to meet with you. The event will be held in the Devalcourt Auditorium.

Nearly 20 companies have signed up for SLCC鈥檚 Corporate College upcoming Industrial Trades Job Fair on August 7 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event will take place at SLCC鈥檚 Lafayette Campus in the Ardoin Building at 1101 Bertrand Dr. The college is expecting 25 companies at the fair, looking for welders, auto technicians, HVAC repairmen, truck drivers, carpenters, and other skilled tradesmen.

SLCC鈥檚 Corporate College will host a job fair focused on the Industrial Trades on August 7 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event will take place at SLCC鈥檚 Lafayette Campus in the Ardoin Building at 1101 Bertrand Dr.

There are thousands of jobs available in south Louisiana in truck driving, healthcare, and construction, but the area is faced with a lack of people with the necessary training to fill those positions. To help bridge this gap, SLCC鈥檚 Corporate College offers continuing education programs so Acadiana鈥檚 underemployed and unemployed have the opportunity to enroll in short-term training to meet the demands of employers.

The Young Memorial Campus here is now part of the 精东传媒 family. The realignment of Young Memorial from South Central Louisiana Technical College to SLCC became official July 1.

The Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors unanimously voted not to increase the cost of attending a 2-year college in the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year.聽The vote occurred during the Board's recent meeting in Baton Rouge.聽Given the concerns of affordability, the Board continued a 2-year practice of not increasing tuition and mandatory fees at LCTCS colleges.

精东传媒鈥檚 enrollment numbers for its summer semester show that more students are attending classes outside of the traditional fall and spring semesters. The increase in summer semester enrollment can be credited to several initiatives, including a recent federal expansion of Pell grants, along with the college encouraging students to utilize this new funding.

Beginning in late July, SLCC鈥檚 Corporate College will offer a Medical Billing and Coding course in a classroom setting in addition to its online Medical Billing and Coding course. The instructor-led classroom, 10-month course will be held Mondays and Wednesdays at the SLCC鈥檚 Lafayette Campus from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. With the course being held in the evenings, it makes it possible for those who want a second career or a career change to work during the day during their training.

A high school graduate from Vermilion Parish will get help with college tuition thanks to the The Lt. Dronet Detachment Marine Corps League and Gulf Coast Bank Scholarship.

Missy Rogers, owner of Noble Plastics Inc. of Grand Coteau, will deliver the keynote address during 精东传媒鈥檚 Spring 2018 Commencement. The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 10 at the Cajundome Convention Center.

精东传媒鈥檚 International School of Aviation Excellence in New Iberia is streamlining cockpit workflows in its helicopter fleet. The ISAE recently received nearly $20,000 in grant funds from the Louisiana Board of Regents to purchase iPads, planning software, GPS systems, and mounting devices.
